After a lot of games, here's how the modifiers actually shake out. Tiers are about win impact, not rarity — some "common" picks punch way above their tier, and some legendaries are flashy traps.
S-Tier — pick these almost every time

| ⚡ Railgun | Legendary | Once per game your rook fires down all four lines at once, piercing blockers. A guaranteed multi-capture you fire at the perfect moment. |

A-Tier — strong, situational, rarely wrong

C-Tier — flashy traps and niche picks
- 🌀 Warp Queen (epic) — one teleport per game looks amazing, but a single repositioning rarely changes the result. You usually want continuous pressure, not a one-time hop.
- 🪃 Ricochet Bishop (epic) — edge-bouncing is hard to calculate for you too. Cool, inconsistent.
- ⛓️ King's Chains (common) — paralyzing one adjacent enemy piece is fine, but you rarely want your king near enemy pieces in the first place.
The real secret: draft for synergy, not stars
The single biggest mistake players make is grabbing the rarest card on offer. Chaos Chess rewards combos over rarity:
- Torpedo Pawns + Pawn Fortress → a self-replenishing pawn avalanche that just walks up the board.
- Any Cannon piece (Queen/Bishop/Rook Cannon) + a crowded center → you turn the opponent's own pieces into launch pads.
- Knook or Amazon + open files → a single super-piece that creates threats faster than the opponent can defend.
And remember the part everyone forgets: it's still chess underneath. A B-tier pick that fits your position beats an S-tier pick that doesn't. Tempo, king safety, and development decide more games than any single modifier.
